On the Rise Bakery/ Kolbe Coffee

On the Rise Bakery returns to St. Joseph Parish on Sunday, October 11, in the Multi-Purpose Room after all Masses.  On the Rise and ROPE (Reaching Our Potential Everyday) are two of the many programs of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.  With each purchase of their baked goods, you are helping make possible the provision of supportive housing, training, counseling services, educational opportunities, and self-help programs.  On the Rise Bakery is a program where each man is responsible to reach back and support the newest member.  As an added bonus this year, Kolbe Coffee will also be selling bagged coffee alongside the baked goods, the same coffee that is sold at the café in Detroit. Profits support the two soup kitchen locations.  Come and pick up something delicious!

KOLBE COFFEE

As you may know, Kolbe Coffee has been coming to some of the parish bake sales with On the Rise Bakery for the past year. 

Kolbe Coffee addresses a widespread problem in which most Catholic farmers are trapped in pricing systems that exploit their labor and keep them financially vulnerable. Catholic coffee-farming families often have no direct connection to the Catholic coffee drinkers who want to support them. If nothing is being done, the injustice continues—not because it is inevitable, but because it is unchallenged.

Kolbe Coffee and its strategic collaborators, Guadalupe Farms Cooperative (25+ Catholic-owned coffee farms) and Guadalupe Roastery, help break that cycle—ensuring farmers are paid fairly and working relentlessly to build stable, growing demand for their coffee.

With support from parishes, Kolbe Coffee connects farmers directly with consumers through bagged coffee sales after weekend Masses.  The coffee will be available alongside On the Rise Bakery products. 

The Capuchin Soup Kitchen has supported Kolbe Coffee’s mission of supporting Catholic coffee-farming families by using their specialty grade coffee (top 3% of quality) at our meal sites and On the Rise Bakery and Café, which located inside the Solanus Casey Center.
